Our featured artist for the Month of January, 2001 is Lisa Astrup of Denmark!
From the early age of 7, Lisa loved doing all sorts of arts and crafts, such as drawing, painting and sewing. For many years Lisa was a member of the Danish Artist and Crafts community and spent her time weaving large wall hangings, which she sold to large companies.
Unfortunately Lisa developed rheumatism and had to give up weaving, but she couldn't stay away from the arts and crafts she loves so much. She soon took up modelling her own dolls and this led her to venture into the wonderful world of BEARS! Lisa has come a long way with bear-making and is now designing and making her very own bears and bear patterns. She just LOVES it and is at her happiest when she is 'fiddling' with her bears...as she puts it.
All Lisa's bears are made from mohair, are fully jointed and has glass eyes. She uses poly-fill, poly-pellets and glass beads to fill her beary lovely bears. Each of Lisa's Teddy Bears are hand-signed by her on the paw pad of the right foot.
