The featured Artist for the month of September is Marcie Patton of Canada!!
I have always loved things like stuffed animals and dolls. While attending a doll show, I learned of the first Calgary Bear Fair, and had to attend. When I saw the beautiful teddy bears the artists had made, I was in love. Because I was only in high school at the time I could not afford to buy a bear, so I opted for a pattern instead. I was really into craft and sewing at the time, but none of the things I had tried captured my interest, but when I saw the cute face of my first teddy bear, I knew I found a hobby that I would never tire of. I made bears from patterns for a few years, and then took a design workshop that gave me the courage to make the bears of my dreams.
Unique Quality of My Bears:
I enjoy making a great variety of bears. My designs range from miniatures, to full size bears. I love giving my bears many different looks, these include realistic, antique and contemporary designs. The style of bear I am into making changes constantly, and I feel this allows me to explore all areas of bear making.
Opinions on Bear Making:
I think the 'world of teddy bears' is such a wonderful place, whether you are a collector, a maker, or you just love bears. There is only goodness, love and happiness in a teddy bear, and they seem to bring all these things to your life. I think it is wonderful to be an adult and still be able to enjoy some of the good things that are usually lost or abandoned after childhood. There are so many wonderful bear makers out there, and the creativity is endless, every new bear I see seems sweeter than the last! Being able to make something that gives people these feelings is a wonderful gift, and I am glad that I found this world.
